Moving advice

Try to schedule your move between the 5th and 20th of any month. This is a slower volume time which makes it easier on the moving company to serve you. The 20th to the 5th of any month is high volume. Try to avoid this time.

If possible, schedule 30 days in advance. This will ensure you get the date that works best for your packing, loading, and delivery. Now you can plan everything else around these three dates.

Check-Off List
For your convenience, we are providing the following items in a printer friendly check-off list for you to place on a clipboard. This includes items that must be handled starting 5 weeks before the move.

3 to 5 Weeks Before the Move

x   Decide what you will give or throw away.
x   Arrange for professional packaging of valuables.
x   Gather your valuable jewelry, personal records, important documents, and cash. Box these items yourself and store them away from the other boxes. (The trunk of your car would be a good spot.) Do not send these items in the moving van.
x   Discontinue all services such as your newspaper, utilities, etc.
x   Mail change of address cards to the Post Office, insurance companies, credit card companies, magazines, and other such agencies.

1 to 2 Weeks Before the Move

x   Safely dispose of or give away all flammables. Items such as fuels, aerosol cans, paint, turpentine, nail polish, matches, propane, bleach, guns and ammunition cannot go in the moving van.

1 to 2 Days Before the Move

x   Defrost and air dry your freezer.
x   Drain fuel from mowers and snowblowers.
x   Make sure all items are checked off on your list.
x   Go to a movie.
x   Drain hoses and water beds.

Moving Day

x   Have fun and relax.
x   Schedule a massage.
x   Conduct a final walk through.
x   Load items you want first on the truck last.

Items to Take With You

x   Jewelry and cash.
x   Guns and ammunition (consult your local laws).
x   Important documents.
x   Moving contracts.
x   Moving Insurance.

Boxing Guide and Packing Tips

x   Use new boxes.
x   Use 2" packing tape.
x   Write on the tape, not the cardboard, for labeling.
x   Label the contents and the room they came from.
x   Use a thick, permanent marker.
x   Use a scissors, not a knife, to cut the tape.

Packing Principles

x   Use new boxes.
x   Keep all the boxes light.
x   Pad the bottom of the box.
x   Allow a 2" cushion space on the sides, top, and bottom of packed boxes. This cushion space is filled with packing paper, towels, chair cushions, or any soft, pliable item.
x   Wrap all plates and saucers with paper and place them on edge in the box. Group the plates and saucers in packages of 7 each then tape them together.
x   Put lamp shapes in wardrobe boxes.
x   Pack computers in their original packing!
x   Have fun, put on some music, and pace yourself.

We do our best to deliver perfection to you.
